How to read a Silk Mark tag, and why we don’t stock untagged sarees

A Silk Mark tag is a small hologram issued by the Silk Mark Organisation of India, a body set up under the Ministry of Textiles. It is not a marketing sticker. It is a verification, issued only after the saree in question has been tested for fibre content.
Every Kanchipuram we sell carries one. We do not stock untagged sarees. The tag tells you three things: the fibre is silk, the seller is registered, and the product has a unique number you can verify on the Silk Mark website.
It does not tell you the saree is handwoven. It does not tell you the silk is from a specific region. It does not tell you the saree is defect-free. For those, you still need a shop you trust.
